So many of I Think You Should Leave’s most outstanding bits are underpinned by some kind of profound sadness, but this is the only one that Trojan horses its darkness in a pair of unicorn earrings. And finally, there’s Robinson’s performance after the routine has clearly bombed: tears smeared on his face, the whole house staring at him, he simply says, “This really is quite a beautiful house.” Annnnnd scene. There are tiny moments that save this sketch, in which Robinson’s character tries to lighten the mood of a party by doing a Blues Brothers routine, only to make things way worse by freaking out a family dog: Conner O’Malley playing the world’s most aggrieved husband the banal discussion about why the dog is losing its shit, which ends with O’Malley yelling, “What?! We know what the problem is” and a second dog coming out of nowhere and nearly running through a glass door. “The Blues Brother” (Season 2, Episode 4) Ranking the Characters From ‘I Think You Should Leave’ The Ringer Guide to Streaming in July 49. There must be a third one coming, though the winner will never be Troll Boy. No matter, Richardson hosting failed competitions is a clearly rich vein for ITYSL. Obviously, the boss has some qualms about evaluating minors in front of all his employees, and the thing falls apart in quick order. Instead of Sam Richardson making three judges pick a perfect baby, he’s making one office manager select who he thinks is the buffest little boy (they’re not actually that ripped-Richardson has just put the boys in “goose suits”). “Little Buff Boys” is Season 2’s spiritual sequel to Season 1’s “Baby of the Year.” For that reason, it lacks some of the original’s absurd shock, but it’s still ridiculous and quotable. “Little Buff Boys” (Season 2, Episodes 1 and 5) It’s not a peak sketch it’s still pretty great. It just doesn’t have the specificity and knotty plotting of “The Gift Receipt” or the surrealism of “Calico Cut Pants.” What it does have is Tim Robinson being scolded by his boss for hiring a guy who looks like his coworker to take huge dumps he could then blame on said coworker-a gag that, with all due respect, worked “150 times.” It also has Robinson arguing that Jerry from Tom & Jerry probably sniffed women’s panties (“You weren’t with him 24/7 in the cartoon!”) and interrupting his own scolding to complain about how a guy who lives too far away wants to buy his bike stand. “Huge Dumps” (Season 2, Episode 6)Īs far as ITYSL sketches revolving around bathroom humor go, “Huge Dumps” is probably the weakest. “FUCK! I SHOULD HAVE LIED! I should have said there was some reason I couldn’t pay and not just said right away I’m not gonna.” Yes, Leslie. Maybe if I got a bite of everyone’s meal, but I just don’t want to do it.” Hal, the friend who proposed the game, attempts to diffuse the situation by saying he’ll pay the check, but Leslie is just getting started. Like Pavlov’s dog, upon hearing his name, Leslie immediately replies with an all-time hissy fit: “I’m not paying the bill. The credit card gods can always sense the most vulnerable bank account, and in this case, Leslie is smote with a 10-person tab at a fancy restaurant. “Credit Card Roulette” (Season 2, Episode 5)Ĭredit card roulette is an objectively terrible game. It’s just a 90-second sketch about horse dicks. But that’s, uh, not the case with this one. Plotlines morph into unrecognizable tangents, the smallest details are latched onto and beaten into the ground until the dotted line from setup to punch line becomes a twisted thread of confusion and hilarity. “Fenton’s Stables and Horse Ranch” (Season 1, Episode 6)Ī trademark of most Tim Robinson sketches is that where they start and where they end up often have nothing to do with each other. It wasn’t easy to do-nearly every sketch in the series deserves praise and has an argument for being the best-but after much deliberation, here is a ranking of every sketch in I Think You Should Leave.ĥ3. With the second season of I Think You Should Leave now streaming on Netflix, we asked our staff to sit down, have a sloppy steak, and judge every sketch in the show’s run with the same rigor they would use in a Baby of the Year competition.

In 1949 Callas was taking the operatic world by storm. Mishura is a mezzo-soprano from Moldavia, currently based in Detroit, who is the toast of the regional opera circuit in the USA but only one of a seemingly endless supply of talented mezzos on the international stage. Callas, of course remains famous years after her death. Two other examples from the world of opera are Maria Callas and Irina Mishura. You can hear it, it may trigger the hoped for response, but it has little to do with what Puccini, the master melodist, had in mind. Used for lots of commercials and in pieces in movie scores, synthesized into unmusicality so that only the melody remains. But musical phrases have their own shape, which can be seemingly simple, such as the first few bars of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, with its rhythmic dah-dah-dah-DAH.Īn example of what musicality is not is the use of “O mio babbino caro” from Gianni Schicchi. Music has form-to oversimplify, there is the vertical movement of melody and the horizontal shape of harmony. If the music is not interpreted one might as well simply read the score or the dance notation. She doesn’t only “play the notes as written” or “dance the steps as choreographed”, but will add her own creative sense to it. One of the first things to understand is that an artist will interpret music. I realized that I had simply used the term “musical” as another signifier for the term “I was thrilled with this performance.” The definition of musical is one I have thought of a lot since then. Shortly after the post appeared I received an email asking if I really thought this dancer was musical, since the that was one attribute that had never occurred to him concerning this dancer. One of the terms I used in describing this dancer and my response to her was “musical”. I was extremely impressed and wrote about it in -this predated BalletTalk. Years ago at the ballet a beautiful young dancer with technique to burn took the stage in Detroit. This thread seems to have run its course, but. If after watching the dance I still have no idea why the choreographer chose that music, even if the dance fits the bar lengths, in my mind, it isn't musical. If a choreographer is musical, I'll know why s/he used that piece of music to set a dance the dance will have made me understand its relation to the music. In choreography, as I implied earlier, for me musicality means getting beneath the skin of the music. It was wonderful to watch, but it also meant that she was not consistent, and it made it tough for her to be in the corps (a good thing she was strong enough to be a soloist!) Her musicality was based on a response to the music as she was hearing it each time. Another friend was the most interestingly musical dancer in the company. She wasn't mechanical, just extremely consistent. One of the women was the most reliably musical she was consistent and hit the same count that was set everytime. When I danced, the other company members provided examples of different ways of being musical. There are many different ways to be musical. Try as I might, I couldn't figure out what was meant. I've heard choreography I considered to have an absolutely pedestrian use of the music (getting the counts, but not the architecture of the score) be called "luminously musical" by others. I've decided, somewhat regretfully, that there are so many different conceptions of what musicality is out there that at best we can make personal "I know it when I see it" definitions for it. I have two stories about dancers and musicality, but I'll wait to post them until there are other responses Some choreographers set dances on the melody, others are more aware of rhythm. An unmusical dancer, to me, is one who gets in the way of the music, who's "off" the music or, at worst, is fighting the music.Ĭhoreographers use music differently, and I think one should be aware of this, and not expect Tudor to be danced like Balanchine, or vice versa. To me, it's when the dancer is inside the music, and that means that what I see matches what I hear there's no air between the movement and the music. American critics generally, as I remember it, praised her for her musicality, but I also remember reading several different British reviews that would say something like "her one sin, lack of musicality." So obviously people were using different definitions! I'm sure there are a variety of definitions, and it can be quite controversial. (I also think it would be interesting to hear how audience members define it. Obsidian and Microsoft have been relatively conservative in their marketing efforts for Avowed thus far, likely to avoid generating excessive hype that may lead to unrealistic expectations. This is a major boon for Game Pass subscribers, who will gain access to one of the most anticipated RPGs without any additional cost. Avowed is confirmed to be available on Xbox and PC, with the game being included in Xbox Game Pass from day one. If BFR is in play, Savitar can dump Clark in the Speed-Force. Plus there's the fact Clark can't see him anyway. On the other hand, Savitar is like a billion times faster, making Clark a literal statue. We haven't seen Savitar phase or time travel yet (he obviously can, but he still needs the feats), so he has no ensured way of hurting Clark. I'm gonna say Savitar if BFR is in play, and stalemate if it isn't. Even if you do subscribe to the show's faulty "Machs" he ends up around Mach 44,372 by scaling off Barry. This obviously all leads back to CW's consistency problems, but that point I'm trying to make is that Savitar is hella fast. So Barry while he was "Mach 2" had maximum speeds of around Mach 874,030. He even had several feats approaching, and 2 even exceeding, light speed. While he was "Mach 2", Barry had dozens and dozens of feats in the Mach Thousands. Now keep in mind those "Machs" the show uses are wildly inaccurate. They're certainly not gonna sustain this quantity, but for now it's what we've got. More important than this number though, is the fact that Savitar is approximently 1,479 times faster than Barry based on his feats so far. This makes Savitar's in-show speed about "Mach 44,372" if Barry is "Mach 30". This makes Savitar at least 34,045,302 mph. Now we simply apply that multiple by Savitar's minimum speed to a human (12,273 mph). This means Barry is roughly 2,774 times that speed. If we assume Barry is Mach 30 for this example, he's 23,019 mph. The average human runs for somewhat sustained distances at around 8.3 mph. Now let's scale a normal person's speed to Barry's, since the properties of the Speed-Force scale travel and reaction speed roughly equally. This ends up meaning a person (not even Savitar sized) would need to move about 12,273 mph to appear completely invisible (or vaguely perceivable when slightly slowed down or to an above average perception) to the human eye in this situation. Let's just use the dimensions the the train station for distance, since that turns out pretty irrelevant, so about 90 feet at least. The average human takes about 50ms to register an image. He could easily be much much much more than that, so this is a minimum speed.įor this let's scale Barry to the human eye. So let's go ahead and say Savitar in motion is fast enough for Barry to be unable to see, and that's at the least. Even when he slowed down to skewer cops (and only if you watch frame by frame) he could barely make out blurry glimpses of his form. Now keep in mind that when Savitar was in motion, all Barry could perceive was his lightning trail. I'd put Barry at least "Mach 30", probably higher, given how easily he took care of Zoom. Secondly, where are you getting Mach 30 from? We already know Zoom was about "Mach 25", and Barry was a good bit faster than him. That's good, but not remotely on Savitar's level. His top reaction feat in that movie was something like Mach 15 I believe. Evasion isn't exactly a tactic Clark has ever utilized. He might take flight to survey the battle field or get a better position, but he won't fly forever to avoid an opponent. He doesn't enter a fight without prior knowledge and think, "Why don't I fly around the earth at top speed to avoid an opponent that might be faster than me". I think it's pretty clear BFR would be the only definitive way to not call this a Flight Speed is pretty irrelevant (it's actually closer to Mach 1,000 based on some calcs a user did a while back), because Clark is not gonna stay airborne forever, flying at full speed. I'm not sure if that relates to his being able to retain enough speed to still appear as a white ball of light to Barry, even within a cell at Blackgate specifically designed by the Team to dampen Speedsters. That's assuming Savitar isn't actually able to directly manipulate the Speed-Force like he says he can, but even that seems wrong since he was able to retain his abilities even within the Speed-Force. Plus the only way to escape the Speed-Force is using the Speed-Force. Even if he survives the transition, within the Speed-Force he'll lose all his abilities. Even Cisco who has control over dimensional/spacial energy, couldn't actually enter the Speed-Frce without being destroyed. We already know non-Speedsters can't exist within the Speed-Force. If you mean fly out of the Speed-Force, that's impossible based on everything we've heard on the show so far. Plus he can't, and likely won't in character, stay airborne forever. Barry has jumped hundreds of feet in the air while only "Mach 2", so Savitar who by scaling is at least in the high "Mach Hundreds" should be able to counter flight pretty easily. Im not sure if I will use this in a real world scenario, perhaps if you have kids and intend to travel over long distance by road you could keep them quiet by converting their videos and stream them via AirVideo. What are the practical applications of UVGI?Īpart from sterilizing water, UVGI can be used in much the same way to disinfect air. Thus, many times it is good to have the treatment as close to the end use as possible or the water must be transported in a way that will keep it from becoming contaminated. On the other hand, chlorinated water is protected from reinfection, while water treated with UVGI can become reinfected. Water chlorination creates toxic by-products and changes the chemical makeup of the water, effecting taste, while UVGI does not. UVGI is now beginning to replace chlorination in many wastewater disinfection systems. For these reasons, most UVGI systems have lamps that are shielded or are in environments that limit exposure. It also causes painful inflammation of the cornea in the eye and can temporarily blind and even permanantly blind by damaging the retina. It causes sunburn in the skin and can, in extreme cases, cause skin cancer. There are also potential dangers to human health that go along with exposure to UVC radiation. To increase effectiveness the light can be reflected, most commonly with aluminum. The effectiveness of the lamp will be therefore lessened if the radiation is blocked by particles in murky water or dust or film coating the outside of the bulb. One such factor being the infective microorganisms’ line-of-sight exposure to to the UV light. UVGI is an extremely effective form of disinfection, but it is dependant on a few factors. What are the pros / cons of germicidal irradiation? When the bulb is not doped with titanium it also emits radiation at a frequency of 185.3 nm which creates ozone gas, which though harmful to human cardiopulmonary health if inhaled, has many practical applications including disinfection and deoderization. This type of quartz must be used in order for the desired radiation frequencies to pass through the glass uninterrupted. They are made of a special titanium fused, or “doped”, quartz glass, meaning they contain primarily silica in amorphous (non-crystalline) form. As electricity arcs through the mercury vapor, the mercury ionizes causing it to radiate ultraviolet light. Germicidal lamps are normally low pressure mercury vapor lamps, which are gas discharge lamps that use mercury in an excited state to produce light. What is a germicidal lamp and how does it work?Ī germicidal lamp is a special type of light bulb which creates the needed specific wavelength of UV radiation in sterilizing systems. Therefore, if sterilizing water, it can not be turbid because the particles in the water causing it to be cloudy may block the UV rays, thus the water must first be filtered or treated with activated charcoal for the UV sterilizer to function properly. In order for this process to be successful, the microorganism must be in direct contact with the UVC radiation. Microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi, and spores, have not developed resistances to UVC radiation since the Earth’s atmosphere blocks most of it, thus exposing these harmful microorganisms to UVC radiation with a wavelength of 253.7 nm emitted by a germicidal lamp, produces thymine dimers, or molecular lesions, within the micro-organismal DNA thereby rendering them unable to grow or reproduce, effectively destroying them. Its use has become popular in the disinfection of wastewater and drinking water on the large and small scale. Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) refers to the use of a certain wavelength of short-wave ultraviolet light (UVC) in the sterilization of water, air, or object surfaces. What is ultraviolet germicidal irradiation and how does it work? There are many commonplace practical applications of UV radiation in the modern developed world.Ģ. UV radiation can cause many different types of chemical reactions, the most well known being the tanning or sunburning of the skin, and it also causes many materials to glow or flouresce. The sun emits all subtypes of UV radiation, but much of it is blocked by the Earth’s ozone layer. UV radiation is divided into a number of subtypes, the most common being UVA, also known as long wave UV or black light, UVB, also known as medium wave UV, and UVC, also known as short wave UV or germicidal UV. Ultraviolet light (UV), referred to as such because in frequency it lies just beyond the visible color violet, is electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths that range from 10 nm to 400 nm and energy levels ranging from 3eV to 124 eV, thus setting it between visible light and X-rays on the electromagnetic spectrum.
